Monday Musings: are you hiding your light?
I almost hesitate to ask you if you're hiding your light because you may not even know that you are. I didn't. I was walking through life not feeling great but not feeling terrible either, and all the while thinking "that's just how life is." Except what if it's not?
Each and every one of us has a light, and I'm talking a blindingly bright light. Unfortunately, you might not have felt or seen your light in so long that you've forgotten what it looks and feels like, but I promise you it's there.
And that you can find it.
And that it's worth rediscovering.
In your light is where you feel at peace even when the world around you may not be; excited to be doing what you're doing; and unabashedly unafraid to be the real you. Does this sound like it's too good to be true? That's a surefire sign that you've been hiding from your light for a really, really long time.
The first step in reconnecting to your (blindingly brilliant) light is raising your awareness of what it looks and feels like to be in it. Here's some questions to get you started*:
When was the last time I felt fully joyous? What was I doing/thinking and what made me feel so damn good?
When have I been aware of suppressing my joy or excitement? What patterns can I see across the times I've chosen to tamp down my light?
What would it feel like to step into my light more often? What would I think, do or say differently?
* If you can't answer these questions (believe me, I couldn't for the longest time), try this on for size instead: keep a daily journal of any moments when you felt most intensely you (i.e.joyous, at peace, unconflicted, connected, fully present and aware). Revisit your notes every week and look for themes. I promise you they'll be there.
